Installed on a rotating Brakedrum, this safety component utilizes pressure and friction to decelerate and stop the Brakedrum. It accomplishes this through the use of a closing spring, a system of levers, a friction material, and an electrohydraulic Thruster. The Thruster’s primary function is to open the Brake by applying a lifting Force that opposes the Brake’s main spring. Typically, the Brake is installed on the high-speed shaft between the motor and gearbox, with the Brakedrum always situated on the gearbox side. This configuration allows the Brake to slow down and stop lifted, traveling, or rotating masses.
